April 30, 2022 at the Sussex County Fairgrounds
The Sussex County Garden Club is proud to announce the dedication of Sussex County’s first and only Blue Star Memorial as a tribute to the men and women of New Jersey who served in the Armed Forces that have defended the United States of America.
A project of the Sussex County Garden Club, the Garden Club of New Jersey, and the NJ Department of Transportation, the memorial is prominently featured in Founder’s Park at the Fairgrounds as a living tribute with flowering dogwood trees amid a beautifully landscaped flowerbed.
The Ceremony
Scouts from Patriot’s Path - Branchville Troop 180 began the ceremony at 10 AM with the flag raising and Pledge of Allegiance. The Branchville American Legion, Post #157, participated in support of this important dedication.
The installation of the Blue Star Memorial By-Way sign is in the circular planter bed in the middle of Founder's Park. (See photo below).
What is the Blue Star Memorial Marker Program?
The Blue Star marker program is a nationwide program to honor US service men and women of the past, present, and future generations. The program began in New Jersey at the close of World War II and has grown into a nation-wide recognition of those who died for our country.
Blue Star markers may be supported by any garden club that is affiliated with the Garden Club of New Jersey and the National Garden Club. What better way to honor those who give so much to keep us free?
